The Town of Islip Community Development Agency is best known for its affordable housing programs for first time homebuyers (housing lotteries) and for assisting existing homeowners to renovate their homes with zero interest loans (housing rehabilitation program).
The CDA was created by New York State legislation in 1976 at the request of the Town of Islip. It is an independent agency that is strongly affiliated with the Town. There are two primary objectives of the CDA:
To assist low and moderate income residents of the Town through housing and public service programs; and
To remove blighted conditions in residential and commercial areas.
The CDA has been designated by the Town of Islip to administer four federally funded programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These programs are: the Community Development Block Grant Program; the HOME Investment Partnership Program; the Emergency Shelter Grant Program; and the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS Program.
To contact the CDA, please call (631) 665-1185 Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The Town of Islip Housing Authority manages 350 units of federally subsidized elderly/senior citizen apartments at four sites: Oakdale, Central Islip, and Bay Shore(2 sites). It also manages 18 units of family housing in Bay Shore(2 sites).
The Housing Authority also administers the Section 8 rental voucher program, a federally-subsidized HUD rental assistance program, in the Town of Islip for 1,036 recipient families.
